Canada’s role in the world has changed in so many different ways from 1945 to 2000. Canada was a main part of NATO and played a part in some of the wars that occurred during the Cold War. The greatest role that Canada had was that of peacekeeper, which help shape Canada into a stronger nation.

Canada also become a strong society. Women were finally recognized for what they have accomplished and being full participants in the social, political. and economic life of Canada.

Canada also changed the way they treated aboriginal people. Aboriginals people struggled for many years in their fight for equality. During this time period, changes occurred that have benefited the aboriginal people.

Canada's international role

I think that Canada’s greatest role during 1945 to 2000 was there role as a peacekeeper. Canada was recognized for its efforts to resolve disputes and mostly the effort to broker peace agreements. The peacekeeping role was very useful, responsible, and inexpensive.  Peacekeeping became a pillar of the Canadian foreign policy in the post war periods.  It also was fundamentally, the dedication and strength of the Canadian military. Peacekeepers have helped to make the world we live in a better place

The Korean War was one of Canada's greatest accomplishments. This was a very significant war for the Canadian United Nations because this war helped Canada to prove that is had a large commitment to the United Nations and that the international community would use collective security to maintain.

When Soviet spies operating inside the Canadian government were discovered, and concern over the fact that the Soviet Union had  exploded its first ever nuclear bomb in 1949, Canada knew that it needed to come out of its pre-war isolationism and make a stand.  This is one of the reasons Canada became involved with NATO.  Canada was not only a member of NATO, but one of the initiators the alliance. This was the first peacetime alliance Canada had ever joined. When Canada joined NATO, they committed to building, and supplying military bases overseas, using ships and aircrafts to track the movements of the Soviet submarines and an agreement to keep a full army brigade and several air squadrons in Europe. Since Canada had a smaller sized military initially, the importance of Canada’s contribution to NATO was mostly political not military support. Through the years though, Canada has offered more in terms of military support.

Canada’s main role was a peacekeeper.  This was a role that Canada created for its country to be a mediator and a peacemaker. Between 1947 and now, Canada had participated in about 40 peacekeeping missions and more than 100,000 soldier have served as a peacekeepers. Peacekeepers have helped to make the world we live in a better place.  Canada should be proud of it's international role as it known throughout the world for it's effort.
